Swan Maiden - Annwn

Down by the lake in November rain

Ghostly trees veiled in mists of grey.

There upon the shore lay a knight who swore

He’d set out for a precious prey.

When a graceful swan dressed in purest white

Stepped ashore in the dead of the night.

And before his eyes, taking off her disguise

She turned to a maiden fair

O how much he longed to forever behold

The beauty he met by that lake.

And within his reach lay all he could seek

Her magic was his to take.

With his heart set to burn too strong was his yearn

His glance was fixed by the queen

In an instant of time he made up his mind

And took away her white plume.

Despite all her pleas, caught in selfish needs

He tied her in magical bond.

She followed the spell and guarded him well

Forever to keep him safe.

Until one sad day in the first dawn of May

The knight then met with his fate.

For when battle arose she was watching too close

And died by the blow of his sword.

Down by the lake in November rain

A knight walks the lonely shore.

Falling down on his knees he is begging her please,

Rise for me evermore!

But he cries out in vain, too strong is his pain,

The maiden forever lost!

Now the proud knight is dying, his cruel heart is lying

Next to the one he loved most.

Alberi spettrali velati da nebbie di grigio.

Là sulla riva giaceva un cavaliere che giurava

Era partito per una preda preziosa.

Quando un grazioso cigno vestito di bianco puro

Sbarcato a terra nel cuore della notte.

E davanti ai suoi occhi, togliendosi il travestimento

Si è rivolta a una festa inaugurale

Oh quanto desiderava guardare per sempre

La bellezza che ha incontrato vicino a quel lago.

E alla sua portata c'era tutto ciò che poteva cercare

La sua magia era sua da prendere.

Con il suo cuore pronto a bruciare troppo forte era il suo desiderio

Il suo sguardo è stato fissato dalla regina

In un attimo ha preso una decisione

E le ha portato via il pennacchio bianco.

Nonostante tutte le sue suppliche, intrappolata nei bisogni egoistici

L'ha legata in un legame magico.

Ha seguito l'incantesimo e lo ha protetto bene

Per sempre per tenerlo al sicuro.

Fino a un triste giorno della prima alba di maggio

Il cavaliere ha quindi incontrato il suo destino.

Perché quando è scoppiata la battaglia, lei stava guardando troppo da vicino

E morì per il colpo della sua spada.

Giù vicino al lago sotto la pioggia di novembre

Un cavaliere cammina sulla spiaggia solitaria.

Cadendo in ginocchio la sta supplicando per favore,

Alzati per me sempre!

Ma grida invano, troppo forte è il suo dolore,

La fanciulla perduta per sempre!

Ora l'orgoglioso cavaliere sta morendo, il suo cuore crudele sta mentendo

Accanto a quello che amava di più.
