Which they utter as they go hence?

I am parted from my brethren

There shall none of these things aid us, but only to say oft the psalm:

If thou hast shown mercy unto man, o man

That same mercy shall be shown thee there;

And if on an orphan thou hast shown compassion

The same shall there deliver thee from want

If in this life the naked thou hast clothed

Youth and the beauty of the body fade at the hour of death

And the tongue then burneth fiercely, and the parched throat is inflamed

The beauty of the eyes is quenched then, the comeliness of the face all altered

The shapeliness of the neck destroyed;

and the other parts have become numb

With ecstasy are we inflamed if we but hear that there is light eternal yonder;

That there is Paradise, wherein every soul of Righteous Ones rejoiceth

Let us all, also, enter into Christ, that we may cry aloud thus unto God:

Che cosa pronunciano mentre vanno da qui?

Sono separato dai miei fratelli

Tutti i miei amici mi abbandono e vado da qui

Ma commemora me con la canzone:

Ma dove vanno ora le anime?

Come abitano ora insieme lì?

Questo mistero ho desiderato imparare;

ma nessuno può impartire il diritto

Richiamano alla mente la propria gente, come noi li facciamo?

O hanno dimenticato tutti coloro che li piangono e fanno il canto:

Andiamo per la via eterna e come condannati

A visi abbattuti, presentiamoci davanti all'unico Dio eterno

Dov'è allora la bellezza?

Dov'è allora la ricchezza?

Dov'è allora la gloria di questo mondo?

Nessuna di queste cose ci aiuterà, ma solo dire spesso il salmo:

Se hai mostrato misericordia all'uomo, o uomo

Quella stessa misericordia ti sarà mostrata lì;

E se su un orfano hai mostrato compassione

Lo stesso là ti libererà dal bisogno

Se in questa vita hai vestito il nudo

Lo stesso ti darà rifugio e canterà il salmo:

La giovinezza e la bellezza del corpo svaniscono nell'ora della morte

E poi la lingua brucia ferocemente, e la gola riarsa è infiammata

La bellezza degli occhi è allora spenta, la bellezza del viso è completamente alterata

La forma del collo distrutta;

e le altre parti sono diventate insensibili

Né dire spesso: Alleluia!

Di estasi siamo infiammati se solo sentiamo che c'è luce eterna laggiù;

Che c'è il Paradiso, in cui gioisce ogni anima dei Giusti

Entriamo anche noi tutti in Cristo, per gridare così ad alta voce a Dio:
