I saw you were standing there

a fistful of sand said you’d never leave from this place

where we had played for three long afternoons.

The broken sticks were bent and covering

a roof of gold we’d had imported from Spain

let’s keep on playing for three more days…

And you saw me like a starling swimming

through the leaves they’re turning

colored shades and you turned me into yesterday.

Armed with an oath, «I am no enemy»

they’re hiding with swords and waiting to break at the seams

but I can see right through their cloakscreens.

So take my hand and take my bow

and string a straight line that will let them know

that we’re piling sand up round our home of gold…

in the eyes it’s bursting

into flames and you burst me into yesterday.

Now the bell is ringing for you to be leaving this day with the moonbeams

we’ll cover our eyes ‘till we know we’re safe and away.

un pugno di sabbia ha detto che non saresti mai andato via da questo posto

dove abbiamo suonato per tre lunghi pomeriggi.

I bastoncini rotti erano piegati e coprivano

un tetto d'oro che avevamo importato dalla Spagna

continuiamo a giocare per altri tre giorni...

E mi hai visto come uno storno che nuota

tra le foglie che girano

sfumature colorate e mi hai trasformato in ieri.

Armato di un giuramento, «non sono un nemico»

si nascondono con le spade e aspettano di rompere le cuciture

ma posso vedere attraverso le loro schermature.

Quindi prendi la mia mano e prendi il mio inchino

e stringi una linea retta che li informi

che stiamo accumulando sabbia intorno alla nostra casa d'oro...

E mi hai fatto volare come un fulmine

negli occhi sta scoppiando

in fiamme e mi hai fatto esplodere ieri.

Ora sta suonando la campana per partire questo giorno con i raggi della luna

nascondimi lì, 'dietro le scale,' fino al giorno dopo,

ci copriremo gli occhi finché non sapremo di essere al sicuro e lontani.
