I took this walk to ease my mind

To find out what’s gnawing at me

Wouldn’t think, to look at me

That I’ve spent a lot of time in education

It all seems so long ago

I’m a thinker, not a talker

I’ve no-one to talk to, anyway

I can’t see the road

For the rain in my eyes

I live above the grocers' store

Owned by an Austrian

He often calls me down to eat

And he jokes about his broken English

Tries to be a friend to me

But for all my years of reading conversation

I stand without a word to say

I can’t see the bridge

And the world is full of life

Full of folk who don’t know me

And they walk in twos or threes or more

While the lamp that shines above the grocers' store

Investigates my face so rudely

And my essays lying scattered on the floor

Fulfil their needs just by being there

And my hands shake, my head hurts

My voice sticks inside my throat

I’m invisible and dumb

And no-one will recall me

And I can’t see the water

For the tears in my eyes

Ho fatto questa passeggiata per rilassare la mente

Per scoprire cosa mi sta rosicchiando

Non penserei, a guardarmi 

Che ho trascorso molto tempo nell'istruzione

Sembra tutto così tanto tempo fa

Sono un pensatore non un oratore

Comunque, non ho nessuno con cui parlare

Non riesco a vedere la strada

Per la pioggia nei miei occhi

Vivo sopra il negozio di alimentari

Di proprietà di un austriaco

Mi chiama spesso a mangiare

E scherza sul suo inglese stentato

Cerca di essere un mio amico

Ma per tutti i miei anni di lettura di conversazioni

Rimango senza una parola da dire

Non riesco a vedere il ponte

Per la pioggia nei miei occhi

E il mondo è pieno di vita

Pieno di gente che non mi conosce

E camminano in due o tre o più

Mentre la lampada che brilla sopra il negozio di alimentari

Indaga la mia faccia in modo così scortese

E i miei saggi giacciono sparsi sul pavimento

Soddisfa i loro bisogni semplicemente essendo lì

E le mie mani tremano, la testa mi fa male

La mia voce mi rimane in gola

Sono invisibile e stupido

E nessuno mi ricorderà

E non riesco a vedere l'acqua
