Chapter # 51 - David & The High Spirit

Have mercy on me, O God,

according to thy steadfast love;

according to thy abundant mercy

blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from sin!

For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned

and done that which is evil in thy sight,

so that thou art justified in thy sentence

and blameless in thy judgment.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,

and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, Thou desireth truth in the inward being,

Therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;

wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Feel me with joy and gladness;

let the bones which thou has broken rejoice.

Hide thy face from my sins,

and blot out all my iniquities.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and put a new and right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence,

and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of thy salvation,

and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Then I will teach transgressors thy ways,

and sinners will return to thee.

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,

And God of my salvation,

And my tongue will sing aloud of my deliverance.

O Lord, open thou thy lips,

And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

For Thou hast no delight in sacrifice, or I Should give a burnt offering.

Thou which will not be pleased.

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;

a broken and contrite heart, O God, thy will not despise.

Do good to Zion in thy good pleasure;

Rebuild the walls of Jerusalem;

then will thou delight in right sacrifices,

in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;

Then bulls will be offered on thy altar.

Abbi pietà di me, o Dio,

secondo il tuo amore costante;

secondo la tua abbondante misericordia

cancella le mie trasgressioni.

Lavami completamente dalla mia iniquità e purificami dal peccato!

Perché conosco le mie trasgressioni,

e il mio peccato è sempre davanti a me.

Contro te, te solo, ho peccato

e fatto ciò che è male ai tuoi occhi,

in modo che tu sia giustificato nella tua sentenza

e irreprensibile nel tuo giudizio.

Ecco, sono stato generato nell'iniquità,

e nel peccato mi concepì mia madre.

Ecco, tu desideri la verità nell'essere interiore,

Perciò insegnami la saggezza nel mio cuore segreto.

Purificami con issopo e sarò puro;

lavami e sarò più bianco della neve.

Sentimi con gioia e letizia;

gioiscano le ossa che hai rotto.

Nascondi il tuo volto dai miei peccati,

e cancella tutte le mie iniquità.

Crea in me un cuore puro, o Dio,

e metti dentro di me uno spirito nuovo e retto.

Non respingermi dalla tua presenza,

e non togliere da me il tuo Santo Spirito.

Rendimi la gioia della tua salvezza,

e sostienimi con uno spirito volenteroso.

Allora insegnerò ai trasgressori le tue vie,

e i peccatori torneranno a te.

Liberami dalla colpa di sangue, o Dio,

E Dio della mia salvezza,

E la mia lingua canterà ad alta voce la mia liberazione.

O Signore, apri le tue labbra,

E la mia bocca mostrerà la tua lode.

Perché tu non hai piacere nel sacrificio, o dovrei fare un olocausto.

Tu che non sarai soddisfatto.

Il sacrificio gradito a Dio è uno spirito spezzato;

un cuore spezzato e contrito, o Dio, la tua volontà non disprezzerà.

Fai del bene a Sion nel tuo beneplacito;

Ricostruisci le mura di Gerusalemme;

allora ti diletterai nei giusti sacrifici,

in olocausti e olocausti interi;

Allora i tori saranno offerti sul tuo altare.
