It was about 6.15 in the morning

I’m drunk, and I’m high, and I’m in Chicago

Now, I had just stumbled out of some club, somewhere

I can’t even remember.

And I walked to the corner, to hail a cab

And after 5 empty cabs just passed me by, one finally stopped

He was this white, mid-western, working-class kinda guy

You know the type

So anyway, I jumped in and I said «Hyatt Regency, please.»

And he looked at me like I was crazy, and said «Where?

Downtown?»

And I said «Yeah!»

Paid no mind

Now, the whole way down to the Hyatt

He kept looking at me through the rear-view mirror, with this real suspicious

stare.

I ain’t pay him no mind though, cos a brother like me was just

interested in the beautiful Chicago skyline.

All sparkly and clean in the sunrise

As we pulled up to the luxurious hotel, and I paid my fare, the cabby turned

around with a curious grin and asked me: «Where you going?

To work?».

and I looked back at him and I said: «Work?

Brother, I’m going to sleep!

Erano circa le 6:15 del mattino

Sono ubriaco, sono fatto e sono a Chicago

Ora, ero appena uscito da qualche club, da qualche parte

Non riesco nemmeno a ricordare.

E sono andato all'angolo, per fermare un taxi

E dopo che mi sono appena passati accanto 5 taxi vuoti, uno finalmente si è fermato

Era un tipo bianco, del Midwest, della classe operaia

Quindi, comunque, sono entrato e ho detto "Hyatt Regency, per favore".

E lui mi guardava come se ero pazzo, e disse «Dove?

Centro?"

E io ho detto «Sì!»

Non ho fatto caso

Ora, fino all'Hyatt

Continuava a guardarmi attraverso lo specchietto retrovisore, con questo vero sospetto

fissare.

Però non gli faccio caso, perché un fratello come me era giusto

interessato allo splendido skyline di Chicago.

Quando ci siamo fermati al lussuoso hotel e ho pagato il biglietto, il tassista ha voltato le spalle

intorno con un ghigno curioso e mi ha chiesto: «Dove vai?

Lavorare?".

e io lo guardai e dissi: «Lavoro?

Fratello, vado a dormire!

Non ho fatto caso
