She walks in beauty,

like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies.

And all that’s best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes,

Thus mellow’d to that tender light,

Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less

Had half impair’d the nameless grace

Which waves in every raven tress

Or softly lightens o’er her face.

Where thoughts serenely sweet express

How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,

So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

But tell of days in goodness spent,

A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!

Lei cammina nella bellezza,

come la notte di climi senza nuvole e cieli stellati.

E tutto ciò che c'è di meglio di scuro e luminoso

Incontra nel suo aspetto e nei suoi occhi,

Così dolce a quella tenera luce,

Quale paradiso nega a un giorno sfarzoso.

aveva mezzo menomato la grazia senza nome

Che ondeggia in ogni albero di corvo

Oppure schiarisce dolcemente il viso.

Dove si esprimono pensieri serenamente dolci

Quanto è pura, quanto è cara la loro dimora.

E su quella guancia, e su quella fronte,

Così morbido, così calmo, eppure eloquente,

I sorrisi che vincono, le tinte che brillano,

Ma racconta di giorni trascorsi nel bene,

Una mente in pace con tutto sotto,

Un cuore il cui amore è innocente!
