I dreamt a dream!

What can it mean?

And that I was a maiden Queen

Guarded by an Angel mild:

Witless woe was ne’er beguiled!

And I wept both night and day

And he wiped my tears away;

And I wept both day and night

And hid from him my heart’s delight

So he took his wings, and fled;

Then the morn blushed rosy red

I dried my tears, and armed my fears

With ten thousand shields and spears

Soon my Angel came again;

I was armed, he came in vain;

For the time of youth was fled

And grey hairs were on my head

Ho sognato un sogno!

Cosa può significare?

E che ero una regina vergine

Custodito da un angelo mite:

Il dolore senza spirito non è mai stato ingannato!

E piansi notte e giorno

E asciugò le mie lacrime;

E piansi sia giorno che notte

E gli nascosi la gioia del mio cuore

Così prese le sue ali e fuggì;

Poi il mattino arrossì di un rosso roseo

Ho asciugato le mie lacrime e armato le mie paure

Con diecimila scudi e lance

Presto il mio angelo tornò;

Io ero armato, lui è venuto invano;

Per il tempo della giovinezza fuggì

E i capelli grigi erano sulla mia testa
