Looked out my window to the east this morning

To the east there was a big old cloud

This Hurricane had no name

But it was sure to tear house from the ground

It would take children from their mammas

No this terror don’t discriminate

But what’s worse is the sickness it would leave behind

Mistrust confusion and hate

We all look for salvation in the seconds before the rain

Why not say a little prayer on any old lovely day?

Take me as I am.

Take me to the promised land

Never let me go.

Never leave me lonely

Take me to the river.

Accompany me to heaven

Every one will know that you’re my one and only

Little man why you play so hard

Like no brother ain never gon' do nothing good?

It’s such a shame when you act reckless

Like no one never found love in no hood

Lord knows there are snakes in the water

And I’ve always had to fight for what’s mine

But I would never tell my daughter

Being black means going and killing my own kind

I’m all about keeping it real and death is a part of life…

Questo uragano non aveva nome

Ma di sicuro distruggeva la casa da terra

Ci vorrebbero i bambini dalle loro mamme

No questo terrore non discrimina

Ma quel che è peggio è la malattia che si lascerebbe alle spalle

Diffidare della confusione e dell'odio

Cerchiamo tutti la salvezza nei secondi prima della pioggia

Perché non dire una piccola preghiera in qualsiasi vecchio bel giorno?

Prendimi come sono.

Portami nella terra promessa

Non lasciarmi mai andare.

Non lasciarmi mai solo

Portami al fiume.

Accompagnami in paradiso

Tutti sapranno che sei il mio unico e solo

Omino perché giochi così tanto

Come se nessun fratello non avesse mai fatto niente di buono?

È un vero peccato quando ti comporti in modo sconsiderato

Come se nessuno avesse mai trovato l'amore senza cappuccio

Il Signore sa che ci sono serpenti nell'acqua

E ho sempre dovuto combattere per ciò che è mio

Ma non lo direi mai a mia figlia

Essere neri significa andare e uccidere la mia stessa specie

Il mio obiettivo è mantenerlo reale e la morte fa parte della vita...

Ma finché siamo qui in giro, perché cantiamo del tentativo di morire?
