A home made bed, just one old quilt

A Holy Bible that ma left to me

Makes me as rich, as rich can be

My friends have gold, yet they are sad

They own the best that can be had

While I just live from day to day

My corn crib’s filled with nothing but cobs

'Cause corn won’t grow on these poor knobs

The sun’s too hot and the rain won’t fall

There’s a cloud in the sky but it’s too small

My housetop leaks and I get damp

Here on this earth I’m called a tramp

But I can smile and feel so proud

Like me he only has two friends

Un letto fatto in casa, solo una vecchia trapunta

Una Sacra Bibbia che mi ha lasciato

Mi rende ricco, come può esserlo

I miei amici hanno l'oro, eppure sono tristi

Possiedono il meglio che si può avere

Mentre vivo solo di giorno in giorno

So che il Signore creerà una via

La mia culla di mais è piena solo di pannocchie

Perché il mais non crescerà su queste povere manopole

Il sole è troppo caldo e la pioggia non cade

C'è una nuvola nel cielo ma è troppo piccola

Il mio tettolo della casa perde e mi umido

Qui su questa terra sono chiamato vagabondo

Ma posso sorridere e sentirmi così orgoglioso
