Well I was shacked up down in the mobile

With a girl from New York city

She woke me up one night to tell me That we weren’t alone.

She said she saw the ghost

Of a woman staring at me

I told her not to worry

But in the morning when I woke up, She was gone

So I headed on to Florida

Where I tangled with some sailors

And as I laid bloody on the wharf

I cursed the ship they sailed on Wouldn’t you know, twenty four hours later

That ship sank into the ocean

Disapearing like an unwanted memory

Beneath the waves

I guess it’s 'cause, still waters run,

Run deep in me Cause I got this crazy way…

Crazy way I’m swimming in still waters.

And I was woke up just before dawn

By an old man crying in the rain.

He was drunk and he was lonely

And as he passed by he sang a hymn.

And as I lay there listening,

Well I almost joined him in that song…

But instead I just held my peace,

And waited 'till that old man moved along.

Then later on that day about

A quarter mile out of town,

I found his body hanging in A grove of pines, swaying in the wind.

And as he swang that rope sang another hymn

To Jesus,

And this time though I don’t know why,

I somehow felt inclined to sing along.

I guess it’s cause, still waters run,

Yes and there are projects for the dead

And there are projects for the living…

Thought I must confess sometimes

I get confused by that distinction…

And I just throw myself into the arms

Of that which would betray me.

I guess to see how far Providence

Will stoop down just to save me.

And it’s all because, still waters run,

Bene, sono stato bloccato sul cellulare

Con una ragazza di New York

Mi ha svegliato una notte per dirmi che non eravamo soli.

Ha detto di aver visto il fantasma

Di una donna che mi fissa

Le ho detto di non preoccuparsi

Ma la mattina quando mi sono svegliato, lei non c'era

Quindi sono andato in Florida

Dove ho aggrovigliato con alcuni marinai

E mentre giacevo sanguinante sul molo

Ho maledetto la nave su cui hanno navigato, non lo sapresti, ventiquattro ore dopo

Quella nave è affondata nell'oceano

Scompare come un ricordo indesiderato

Sotto le onde

Immagino sia perché, le acque scorrono ancora,

Corri nel profondo di me perché ho avuto questo modo folle...

In modo pazzesco sto nuotando in acque ferme.

E mi sono svegliato poco prima dell'alba

Da un vecchio che piange sotto la pioggia.

Era ubriaco e si sentiva solo

E mentre passava, cantava un inno.

E mentre me ne stavo lì ad ascoltare,

Beh, mi sono quasi unito a lui in quella canzone...

Ma invece ho solo mantenuto la pace,

E ha aspettato che quel vecchio si muovesse.

Poi più tardi quel giorno circa

A un quarto di miglio fuori città,

Ho trovato il suo corpo sospeso in un boschetto di pini, che ondeggiava nel vento.

E mentre oscillava quella corda cantava un altro inno

A Gesù,

E questa volta, anche se non so perché,

In qualche modo mi sentivo incline a cantare insieme.

Immagino sia perché, le acque scorrono ancora,

Corri nel profondo di me

Perché ho questo modo pazzesco...

In modo pazzesco sto nuotando in acque ferme.

Sì e ci sono progetti per i morti

E ci sono progetti per i vivi...

Ho pensato di dover confessare a volte

Sono confuso da questa distinzione...

E mi sono semplicemente gettato tra le braccia

Di ciò che mi tradirebbe.

Immagino di vedere fino a che punto la Provvidenza

Si abbasserà solo per salvarmi.

Ed è tutto perché, scorrono ancora le acque,

Corri nel profondo di me...

Perché ho questo modo pazzesco...
