Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

And danced the sky on laughter silvered wings

Sunward I ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things

I ve wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence

Hovering there I ve chased the shouting winds aloft

And flung my eager craft through footless halls of air

The higher we fly, the farther we go The closer we are to each other

The darker the night, the brighter the star

In peace go my sisters and brothers

Up, up, the long delirious burning blue

I ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace

Where never lark nor even eagle flew

And while with silent lifting mind I trod

The high untresspassed sanctity of space

Put out my hand and touched the face of God

Oh, ho perso i legami scontrosi della Terra

E ballato il cielo su ali argentate di risate

Verso il sole sono salito e mi sono unito all'allegria cadente

Di nuvole spaccate dal sole e fatto cento cose

Ho ruotato, mi sono alzato in volo e ho oscillato in alto nel silenzio illuminato dal sole

In bilico lì ho inseguito i venti urlanti in alto

E scagliai la mia imbarcazione impaziente attraverso sterminati corridoi d'aria

Più in alto voliamo, più lontano andiamo, più vicini siamo gli uni agli altri

Più scura è la notte, più luminosa è la stella

In pace vanno le mie sorelle e i miei fratelli

Su, su, il lungo delirante blu ardente

Ho superato le vette battute dal vento con grazia facile

Dove mai l'allodola e nemmeno l'aquila volavano

E mentre con la mente sollevata silenziosa ho calpestato

L'elevata santità invalicabile dello spazio

Allungai la mia mano e toccai il volto di Dio
