The Flint Arrowhead - Johnny Cash

While traveling this land from border to border and from sea to sea

There have a few occasions to leave the beaten path and to find the place

And quiet that’s good for thought and just walking through a trackless forest

Or exploring ruins of the earliest settlers or walking along a creek bed

Hoping to find a relic such as a tomahawk an axe

Or even an arrowhead left by a race of long since vanished Indians

There’s a great thrill and it’s a wonderful feeling to find a flint arrowhead

Over fields of new turned sod and in communion with my God I walked alone

In a furrow bed I found an arrowhead chiseled from stone

I don’t know how long ago some redman drew his bow on its last fight

Or did he drop it here afraid white men were near to attack at night

I do know this one thing beyond all questioning it was made to kill

And proof of a master trade is in this arrowhead he made fashioned with skill

That I inherited this ground is denied by this stone I’ve found but when and by

who

Come join me in my tracks then let’s stop and look back to the vale and through

In love and peace we’ll see the shadows and the trees and voices too

But quietly slowly tread this home of the forgotten dead whose bones are dust

I’m proud that their craftsmen’s skill survives the ages still left in my trust

Durante il viaggio su questa terra da un confine all'altro e da un mare all'altro

Ci sono alcune occasioni per lasciare il sentiero battuto e trovare il posto

E tranquillo che fa bene a pensare e semplicemente a camminare in una foresta senza tracce

O esplorare le rovine dei primi coloni o camminare lungo il letto di un torrente

Sperando di trovare una reliquia come un tomahawk un'ascia

O anche una punta di freccia lasciata da una razza di indiani scomparsi da tempo

C'è una grande emozione ed è una sensazione meravigliosa trovare una punta di freccia di selce

Su campi di nuova zolla e in comunione con il mio Dio ho camminato da solo

In un solco ho trovato una punta di freccia scolpita nella pietra

Non so quanto tempo fa un uomo rosso ha tirato l'arco nel suo ultimo combattimento

O l'ha fatto cadere qui per paura che i bianchi fossero vicini ad attaccare di notte

So che questa cosa al di là di ogni dubbio che è stata creata per uccidere

E la prova di un mestiere è in questa punta di freccia che ha modellato con abilità

Che io abbia ereditato questa terra è negato da questa pietra che ho trovato, ma quando e dopo

chi

Unisciti a me sulle mie tracce, poi fermiamoci e guardiamo indietro alla valle e attraverso

Nell'amore e nella pace vedremo anche le ombre, gli alberi e le voci

Ma percorri con calma e lentamente questa casa dei morti dimenticati le cui ossa sono polvere

Sono orgoglioso che l'abilità dei loro artigiani sopravviva ai secoli ancora lasciati nella mia fiducia
