In the eyes of the trapper fire’s burning, burning bright

He’s searching for the crossing where the fox has left its traces on

Shortly finds a trail jam, lays his snare under the trace

With care wipes his own marks and skis back along his own tracks

The work has been done as well as he does

Can’t sleep at night, can’t stand the wait

He has to get up, he has to leave

And before the dawn the chase is on

Gently slide the skis on the hardened skiing tracks

The narrow beam of the headlight moves around back and forth

Shows the way through the tangle, reveals the gleam under the spruce

The yellow flashes in the darkness, shotgun’s flame lights up the sky

The gleam dies out

But the fire’s burning

And on the gambrel’s nails

Is hanging upside down

One of god’s cereals

Giving away its skin and tail

Once and again

This lonely man

Is skiing back

Along his own tracks

Negli occhi del cacciatore il fuoco arde, ardente brillante

Sta cercando l'incrocio dove la volpe ha lasciato le sue tracce

In breve tempo trova un inceppamento, mette la sua trappola sotto la traccia

Con cura si asciuga i segni e torna con gli sci lungo le sue stesse tracce

Il lavoro è stato fatto bene come lui

Non riesco a dormire la notte, non sopporto l'attesa

Deve alzarsi, deve partire

E prima dell'alba inizia la caccia

Fai scorrere delicatamente gli sci sulle piste da sci indurite

Il fascio stretto del faro si muove avanti e indietro

Mostra la via attraverso il groviglio, rivela il bagliore sotto l'abete

Il giallo lampeggia nell'oscurità, la fiamma del fucile illumina il cielo

Il bagliore si spegne

Ma il fuoco sta bruciando

E sulle unghie del giocatore d'azzardo

È appeso a testa in giù

Uno dei cereali di Dio

Dando via la sua pelle e la sua coda

Ancora una volta

Quest'uomo solitario

Sta tornando sugli sci

Lungo le sue stesse tracce
