on evening’s hearth

We watched it rise into the dark

I stumbled aft'

We watched your path, we guarded fast

breath after breath

Then hunger gnawed

and deserts swam

You did not prepare, lost lamb

the star did fade

Your curses heard, we did not forsake you

As my body joined the ground

I saw you gathered all around

I asked you why you let me fail

to see what lay beneath that starry tail

your spirit rose above the earth

You did not think to look back down

after glimpsing what glory abounds
