There’s a rush in the kitchen, there’s monks in the hall

It’s past time for dinner, they’re silent monks all

The cook is a good man with ladle and plate

He will not be rushed in the steam and the heat

Though a simple man, he just seemed to know

As it is above, so it is below

He hums to himself all the hymns he has known

While he pulls up the leeks, they’re so carefully grown

He doesn’t like chapel bent down on his knees

Just wasting his tim with these words and decrees

H does all his work in the presence of the Lord

He is praying while salting the monks' holy food

He fights the good fight with utensils as a sword

He is peeling potatoes to the glory of God

C'è fretta in cucina, ci sono monaci nella sala

È passata l'ora di cena, sono tutti monaci silenziosi

Il cuoco è un brav'uomo con mestolo e piatto

Non sarà precipitato nel vapore e nel caldo

Sebbene fosse un uomo semplice, sembrava che lo sapesse

Come è sopra, così è sotto

Canticchia tra sé tutti gli inni che ha conosciuto

Mentre tira su i porri, sono così cresciuti con cura

Non gli piace la cappella piegata in ginocchio

Sto solo sprecando il suo tempo con queste parole e decreti

H fa tutto il suo lavoro alla presenza del Signore

Sta pregando mentre sala il cibo sacro dei monaci

Combatte la buona battaglia con gli utensili come una spada

Sta sbucciando le patate alla gloria di Dio
