The angel Gabriel from Heaven came,

His wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame;

«All hail,"said he, «Thou lowly maiden Mary,

Most hightly favored lady,"Gloria!

«For know a blessed Mother thou shalt be,

All generations laud and honor thee,

Thy Son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold,

Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head,

«To me be as it pleaseth God,"she said,

«My sould shall laud and magnify his holy Name.»

Most highly favored lady, Gloria!

Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born

In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn,

And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say:

«Most hightly favored lady,"Gloria!

L'angelo Gabriele venne dal cielo,

Le sue ali come neve alla deriva, i suoi occhi come fiamme;

«Salve a tutti», disse, «umile fanciulla Maria,

Dama altamente favorita, "Gloria!

«Poiché conosci una Madre benedetta sarai,

Tutte le generazioni ti lodano e ti onorano,

Tuo Figlio sarà Emmanuele, predetto dai veggenti,

Allora la dolce Maria chinò docilmente il capo,

«A me sii come piace a Dio», disse,

«La mia anima loderà e magnificherà il suo santo Nome».

La signora più favorita, Gloria!

Da lei nacque l'Emmanuele, il Cristo

A Betlemme, tutto in una mattina di Natale,

E la gente cristiana di tutto il mondo dirà mai:

«Dama molto favorita,"Gloria!
