He was small and he was hungry

He had so many words to say

He came in from off the corner

Where some man told him to stay.

His head hung down, his eyes was driftin'

But they saw everything so clear

He was cool and he didn’t have nuthin'

Never showed a sign of fear.

He didn’t talk to very many

He mostly kept to his self

He was shy and pretty funny

Stayed awhile and then he left.

A few days past is when I saw him

He’d nod to me and I would smile

I think he asked me, «Whoa, Mike, what’s happenin' «I said, «Set down and talk awhile.»

Well he set down and he started rappin'

Everything he said, those words was true

He told of people and the madness

Of the fools and the things they do.

He said:

Some men have lived and learned through living

Some men have learned by seein' true

You cannot judge from what they’re sayin'

It’s real clear from what they do.

He got up, said he felt silly

Said he’d been talkin' a little to long

He did not know his own self truly

Said his right could be my wrong.

I didn’t see him till way, way later

It was all different and he’d not changed

He was small and he looked hungry

I was tired and it’s all so strange.

Era piccolo e aveva fame

Aveva così tante parole da dire

È entrato da fuori l'angolo

Dove un uomo gli ha detto di restare.

La sua testa era china, i suoi occhi erano alla deriva

Ma hanno visto tutto così chiaro

Era cool e non aveva niente

Non ha mai mostrato segno di paura.

Non ha parlato con molti

Per lo più si teneva per sé

Era timido e piuttosto divertente

Rimase un po' e poi se ne andò.

Qualche giorno fa è stato quando l'ho visto

Mi annuiva e io sorridevo

Penso che mi abbia chiesto: "Whoa, Mike, cosa sta succedendo?"

Bene, si è messo a terra e ha iniziato a rappare

Tutto ciò che ha detto, quelle parole erano vere

Raccontava delle persone e della follia

Degli sciocchi e delle cose che fanno.

Egli ha detto:

Alcuni uomini hanno vissuto e imparato vivendo

Alcuni uomini hanno imparato vedendo il vero

Non puoi giudicare da quello che stanno dicendo

È molto chiaro da quello che fanno.

Si è alzato, ha detto che si sentiva sciocco

Ha detto che stava parlando da un po' troppo a lungo

Non conosceva veramente se stesso

Ha detto che il suo diritto potrebbe essere il mio torto.

Non l'ho visto fino a molto, molto dopo

Era tutto diverso e lui non era cambiato

Era piccolo e sembrava affamato

Ero stanco ed è tutto così strano.
