As the world lies silent mother lights the candles

And she cries, and smiles and wipes the teardrops from her eyes

The shabbos is born in our home

I feel the sudden warmth, the sudden change of air

As we stand with all the malachim there

If I could only keep the kedusha here and bring the whole world to see

I’d have them stand around me and watch me say amen

And after me they all would do the same

I know they would, there’s no need to explain how grateful they would be

If only I could tell them

If only they would know

Just what it is that makes the Shabbos so holy

And if I could only show them

The beauty of this day

They would keep it too and we’d send this golus away

Everyone’s singing, describing all the splendor

Of this world of creation;

the sudden day, the sudden night;

Everything beautiful, bright

Then there was a sudden warmth, a sudden change of air

As flowers and grass dressed up the atmosphere

If I could only keep the kedusha there and bring the whole world to see

All the birds, and the fish, and the animals big and small

Blossoming trees and water to feed them all

And man was formed to heed his Master’s call;

The world was completed

And then the sun began to lower, the world was all done

The day of Shabbos, of rest and beauty for everyone

Vayivorech ess yom hashvi’i vayekadesh oso

Ki vo shavos mikol milachto

Everyone’s singing…

Mentre il mondo giace in silenzio, la madre accende le candele

E lei piange, sorride e si asciuga le lacrime dagli occhi

Lo shabbos nasce nella nostra casa

Sento il calore improvviso, l'improvviso cambiamento d'aria

Mentre stiamo con tutti i malachim lì

Se solo potessi tenere qui il kedusha e portare il mondo intero a vederlo

Li farei stare intorno a me e guardarmi dire amen

E dopo di me avrebbero fatto tutti lo stesso

So che lo farebbero, non c'è bisogno di spiegare quanto sarebbero grati

Se solo potessi dirglielo

Se solo lo sapessero

Proprio ciò che rende lo Shabbo così santo

E se solo potessi mostrarli

La bellezza di questo giorno

Lo terrebbero anche loro e mandiamo via questo golus

Tutti cantano, descrivendo tutto lo splendore

Di questo mondo di creazione;

il giorno improvviso, la notte improvvisa;

Tutto bello, luminoso

Poi ci fu un calore improvviso, un improvviso cambio d'aria

Come fiori ed erba vestivano l'atmosfera

Se solo potessi tenere la kedusha lì e portare il mondo intero a vederlo

Tutti gli uccelli, e i pesci, e gli animali grandi e piccoli

Alberi in fiore e acqua per nutrirli tutti

E l'uomo fu formato per ascoltare la chiamata del suo Maestro;

Il mondo era completato

E poi il sole ha cominciato a calare, il mondo era tutto finito

Il giorno dello Shabbos, del riposo e della bellezza per tutti
