Someone may ask the question, «why are you so sad?»

I would answer quite directly, «the blues is all I’ve had»

'Cause I’ve been so mistreated, the blues has caused many tears

Because the world has misused me, and have for many years

Someone may see me cryin', and ask the reason why

The answer would be easy, the blues has made me cry

And I know just what you’re thinking, but listen just the same

Because the world is full of evil, I feel like it’s the blame

Someone may want to ask me, why am I this way?

I would know how to answer, but this what I’d say:

«'Cause I’ve been so mistreated, the blues has caused many tears
