We pulled off the highway

Drove down Main Street

Found a one-pump

Where we gassed and asked where the food was

Like we knew we’d been expected all along

Lawyer had an office on the 2nd floor

Reached it from the outside up the stairs

Side of the wall

Just past there I looked down the street

The town disappeared into high plains

I knew that somewhere out there

A valley is filled with frozen clouds

Dust hangs in the air like it is perfume

No one is waiting

Does someone there know me?

I meant to write down the name of the town

I don’t remember the highway we took to get to it

Or where we went after I do remember

The frozen quality of the hours we stayed there

I remember the waitress and what Tom had to eat

I remember the faces of the other customers

Like they was my own family

I remember that just over the horizon there was a valley

Filled with frozen clouds

Siamo usciti dall'autostrada

Ho guidato lungo la Main Street

Trovato una pompa singola

Dove abbiamo gasato e chiesto dove fosse il cibo

Come sapevamo di essere stati attesi da sempre

L'avvocato aveva un ufficio al 2° piano

L'ho raggiunto dall'esterno su le scale

Lato del muro

Appena passato ho guardato in fondo alla strada

La città scomparve in alta pianura

Lo sapevo da qualche parte là fuori

Una valle è piena di nuvole ghiacciate

La polvere è sospesa nell'aria come se fosse un profumo

Nessuno sta aspettando

Qualcuno lì mi conosce?

Volevo scrivere il nome della città

Non ricordo l'autostrada che abbiamo preso per raggiungerlo

O dove siamo andati dopo che me lo ricordo

La qualità congelata delle ore in cui siamo stati lì

Ricordo la cameriera e cosa doveva mangiare Tom

Ricordo i volti degli altri clienti

Come se fossero la mia stessa famiglia

Ricordo che appena oltre l'orizzonte c'era una valle

Pieno di nuvole ghiacciate

La polvere è sospesa nell'aria come profumo
