I was chasing my demons, carrying my cross

Searching for survivors in a battle I had lost

I’d proven my valor but I had no sense of pride

A charlatan for a king can make you blind

I was hoping for reasons

Someone to believe in

When an angel of mercy

Appeared before my eyes

I held her closer, banishing my fears

Death’s a sanctuary for those drowning in their tears

Casting our shadows when moving through the fight

On the weary in the wicked and wise

An old man’s confusion

He’s conjured up illusions

Of a world we once lived in

Dying before our eyes
