4 a.m. comes awful early, and I was dead on my feet

You gotta lose a little sleep

Well, I pack my gear and a couple beers

I headed for my favorite spot

Well, I curse my luck when I saw his truck right where I pulled off

Was hoping to have the river to myself that day

The way the sun bounced off the water

I could hardly make him out

But I could see he had a fish on

A big ole rainbow trout

The fight went on forever

And as they headed down my way, I saw his

military hair cut and the new scars on his face

Right then I knew what brought him to this place

He held that fish down in the water

And he coaxed it to back to life

He said «Help, you get your wind back

And all I could think to say was «Welcome home»

But I think that river said it best on its own

Le 4 del mattino arrivano molto presto e io ero morto in piedi

Ma se prenderai il pesce più grande

Devi perdere un po' di sonno

Bene, preparo la mia attrezzatura e un paio di birre

Il modo in cui il sole rimbalzava sull'acqua

Difficilmente riuscivo a distinguerlo

Ma ho potuto vedere che aveva un pesce addosso

Una grande trota iridea

La lotta è andata avanti per sempre

E mentre si dirigevano verso di me, vidi la sua

taglio di capelli militare e le nuove cicatrici sul viso

In quel momento sapevo cosa lo portava in questo posto

Non so perché è la tua presenza lì

Tenne quel pesce nell'acqua

E lo convinse a tornare in vita

Disse «Aiuto, riprendi fiato

Perché mi aiuti a prendere il mio»

E tutto ciò che riuscivo a pensare di dire era «Bentornato a casa»

Ma penso che quel fiume l'abbia detto meglio da solo
