Ernie the Falconer - Salto

Ernie was the falconer of the Belfast Intl Airport

but he couldn’t tell a parrot from a hawk

He lived by the runway in a cabin like a soul of damnation

He was always high and stoned and drunk.

He was alright.

Cletus was the hawk himself he was beautiful but close to starvation

Nonetheless he was all Ernie ever loved

Lately he’s being sneaking out, he was trying to get some emancipation

Today he brought a human finger in his jaws.

Ernie came home drunk last night he was in a hell of a mood

started shouting at the dinner table throwing things around and Cletus he

started to brood

A lot of screaming going on in there, the falcon flew away out the window

And Ernie kept repeating oh my my my my my my lord

Seconds later he heard a crash and he barely could believe what he saw

An airplane crashing and feathers everywhere

And it’s alright

Taken aback with despair at his sudden loss

Ernie slipped into a deep dark hole

of alcoholism, heroin abuse and pornography

that could not fill the gash in his soul
