So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,

Behold the preparations, fire and iron,

But where the lamb for this burnt-offering?

Then Abram bound the youth with belts and straps,

And builded parapets and trenched there,

And streched forth the knife to slay his son.

When lo!

and angel called him out of heaven,

Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the lad,

Neither do anything to him.

Behold,

A ram, caught in a thicket by its horns;

Offer the Ram of Pride instead of him.

But the old man would not so,

but slew his son, —

And half the seed of Europe, one by one.

laudis offerimus;

tu suscipe pro

animabus illis, quarum hodie

memoriam facimus: fac eas, Domine,

Allora Abramo legò il giovane con cinture e cinghie,

E vi costruì parapetti e vi fece trincee,

E tese il coltello per uccidere suo figlio.

e l'angelo lo chiamò dal cielo,

dicendo: Non mettere la mano sul ragazzo,

Né fare nulla a lui.

Ecco,

Un ariete, preso in un boschetto per le corna;

Offri l'Ariete dell'orgoglio al posto di lui.

Ma il vecchio non sarebbe così,

ma uccise suo figlio, -

E metà del seme dell'Europa, uno per uno.
