I come back to the same place every single year

I reflect on all my past faults condescending as if I’ve progressed

As soon as I think I’ve made it And I’m in the clear

Some stranger Familiar feeling I regress again and again and again

All those pictures on your wall

Of all the fun you had last fall

Were you happy in the spring

While you were doing the same things?

6 am on a cold Tuesday 1993

Every day I wake up and do it over the same routine

If my legs kick just to tread water is it worth the energy?

And if I can’t be A work in progress Then just let me sink

My mother used to draw lines on the wall

To chart my growth, she’d say «you've become so tall»

And I believed her then, she was always right after all

But laying on my bed now I wonder, have I grown at all?

Have we lost sight of the forest

From the safety of the treetops

In time, will we find ourselves?

In time, will we belong?

Torno nello stesso posto ogni anno

Rifletto su tutti i miei difetti passati condiscendendo come se fossi progredito

Non appena penso di avercela fatta e sono a posto

Qualche estraneo Sensazione familiare che regredisco ancora e ancora e ancora

Tutte quelle foto sulla tua parete

Di tutto il divertimento che ti sei divertito lo scorso autunno

Eri felice in primavera

Mentre facevi le stesse cose?

Le 6 del mattino di un freddo martedì del 1993

Ogni giorno mi sveglio e lo faccio con la stessa routine

Se le mie gambe scalciano solo per calpestare l'acqua, vale l'energia?

E se non posso essere un work in progress allora lasciami semplicemente sprofondare

Mia madre era solita disegnare linee sul muro

Per tracciare la mia crescita, diceva "sei diventato così alto"

E allora le ho creduto, dopotutto aveva sempre ragione

Ma sdraiato sul mio letto ora mi mi chiedo, sono cresciuto del tutto?

Abbiamo perso di vista la foresta

Dalla sicurezza delle cime degli alberi

Col tempo, ci ritroveremo?

Col tempo, ci apparterremo?
