October to May - Strawbs

Summer’s gone come chill October days

We will stroll through russet trees

Through the fallen leaves of oak and sycamore

That carpet earth through harsh December freeze.

Fireworks and children with eyes that sparkle bright

In November’s Guy Fawkes flames

Parents thinking of their forgotten years

As they join in with their children’s games.

December brings nostalgic Santa Claus

Toys and shining Christmas trees

Families huddled round their open fires

As they wait for winter’s grip to ease.

Seaside piers, iron girders gaunt and still

Gone the crowds of yesterday

Icy fingers in the sea at night

Sad and empty tears the first of May.

L'estate è finita, arrivano le fredde giornate di ottobre

Cammineremo tra gli alberi color ruggine

Attraverso le foglie cadute di quercia e sicomoro

Quel tappeto di terra durante il rigido gelo di dicembre.

Fuochi d'artificio e bambini con occhi che brillano

Nelle fiamme di Guy Fawkes di novembre

Genitori che pensano ai loro anni dimenticati

Mentre si uniscono ai giochi dei loro figli.

Dicembre porta il nostalgico Babbo Natale

Giocattoli e alberi di Natale splendenti

Le famiglie si sono accalcate intorno ai loro fuochi aperti

Mentre aspettano che la presa dell'inverno si allenti.

Pontili sul mare, travi di ferro scarni e immobili

Sono finite le folle di ieri

Dita ghiacciate nel mare di notte

Lacrime tristi e vuote il primo maggio.
