I was a city baby raised on a well-worn street

my daddy hated it because of it’s fame

i never noticed really

i was too young at the time to care about the history in it’s name.

Some years go by

and the move me to the sticks

some dinky satellite of my old home

and it was there i took off to meet my mind on the streets

and it was there i made off on my own.

And i’ve been sick and i’ve been tired

i’ve been a madman slashing tires and starting fires

i’m not afraid cowards be damned

i’m full of pills and smoke and booze and i’m teenage.

A few wasted years a cup of tasteless tears

i learned my lessons the old fashioned way

some think i’m angry and mean

but, hell, i’m only eighteen

there’s only so much a kid can take.

Another day, another time my life

and loves are in line

but i never lost the nerve that i had

i kept my insides clean

my soul solid and lean

my independence guiding me through the crap.

Sono stato un bambino di città cresciuto in una strada consumata

mio papà lo odiava perché è famoso

non l'ho mai notato davvero

all'epoca ero troppo giovane per preoccuparmi della storia nel suo nome.

Passano alcuni anni

e spostami verso i bastoncini

qualche squallido satellite della mia vecchia casa

ed è stato lì che sono partito per incontrare la mia mente per le strade

ed è stato lì che sono scappato da solo.

E sono stato malato e sono stato stanco

Sono stato un pazzo che taglia le gomme e appicca incendi

non ho paura che i codardi siano dannati

sono pieno di pillole, fumo e alcol e sono adolescente.

Alcuni anni hanno sprecato una tazza di lacrime insapore

ho imparato le mie lezioni alla vecchia maniera

alcuni pensano che io sia arrabbiato e cattivo

ma, diavolo, ho solo diciotto anni

c'è solo così tanto che un bambino può sopportare.

Un altro giorno, un'altra volta la mia vita

e gli amori sono in linea

ma non ho mai perso il coraggio che avevo

mi sono tenuto pulito dentro

la mia anima solida e magra

la mia indipendenza che mi guida attraverso le cazzate.
