The Great Crusade -

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven

these many months.

The eyes of the world are upon you.

The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you.

In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts,

you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine,

the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe,

and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one.

Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight

savagely.

But this is the year 1944!

Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940−41.

The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,

in open battle, man to man.

Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their

capacity to wage war on the ground.

Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and

munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting

men.

The tide has turned!

The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle.

We will accept nothing less than full victory!

And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble

undertaking.

Soldati, marinai e aviatori della forza di spedizione alleata!

Stai per intraprendere una grande crociata, verso la quale ci siamo sforzati

questi molti mesi.

Gli occhi del mondo sono su di te.

Le speranze e le preghiere delle persone che amano la libertà marciano ovunque con te.

In compagnia con i nostri coraggiosi alleati e compagni d'armi su altri fronti,

porterai alla distruzione della macchina da guerra tedesca,

l'eliminazione della tirannia nazista sui popoli oppressi d'Europa,

e sicurezza per noi stessi in un mondo libero.

Il tuo compito non sarà facile.

Il tuo nemico è ben addestrato, ben equipaggiato e indurito nella battaglia, combatterà

selvaggiamente.

Ma questo è l'anno 1944!

Molte cose sono successe dai trionfi nazisti del 1940-1941.

Le Nazioni Unite hanno inflitto ai tedeschi grandi sconfitte,

in una battaglia aperta, da uomo a uomo.

La nostra offensiva aerea ha seriamente ridotto la loro forza nell'aria e la loro

capacità di fare la guerra sul campo.

I nostri fronti interni ci hanno dato una travolgente superiorità nelle armi e

munizioni di guerra, e messo a nostra disposizione grandi riserve di combattimento addestrato

uomini.

La marea è cambiata!

Gli uomini liberi del mondo stanno marciando insieme verso la vittoria!

Ho piena fiducia nel tuo coraggio, devozione al dovere e abilità nella battaglia.

Accetteremo niente di meno che la piena vittoria!

In bocca al lupo!

E tutti noi imploriamo le benedizioni di Dio Onnipotente su questo grande e nobile

impresa.
