Trodden with the cattle’s feet

But a Pebble of the brook

Warbled out these metres meet:

«Love seeketh only Self to please

To bind another to its delight

Joys in another’s loss of ease

And builds a hell in heaven’s despite.»

«L'amore non cerca di piacere

Né per sé ha alcuna cura

Ma per un altro dà la sua facilità

E costruisce un paradiso nella disperazione dell'inferno.»

Così cantò una piccola zolla di argilla

Calpestato con le zampe del bestiame

Ma un ciottolo del ruscello
