you want to know why i hate you?

well i ll try and explain…

you remember that day in paris

when we wandered through the rain

and promised to each other

that we d always think the same

the child s eyes uttered nothing

but a mute and utter joy

and filled my heart with shame for us at the way we are

i turned to look at you

to read my thought upon your face

and gazed so deep into your eyes

so beautiful and strange

until you spoke

and showed me understanding is a dream

«i hate these people staring

make them go away from me!»

the father s eyes said «beautiful!

how beautiful you are!»

the boy s eyes said

she glitters like a star!»

the child s eyes uttered nothing

but quiet and utter joy

and stilled my heart with sadness

for the way we are…

and how i understand

that no-one ever knows or loves another

ricordi quel giorno a parigi

quando vagavamo sotto la pioggia

e promessi l'un l'altro

che pensiamo sempre allo stesso modo

e sognato quel sogno

gli occhi del bambino non dicevano nulla

ma una gioia muta e totale

e mi ha riempito il cuore di vergogna per noi per come siamo

mi sono girato per guardarti

per leggere il mio pensiero sul tuo viso

e ti guardavo così profondamente negli occhi

così bello e strano

finché non hai parlato

e mi ha mostrato che la comprensione è un sogno

«Odio queste persone che mi fissano

falli allontanare da me!»

gli occhi del padre dicevano «bella!

come sei bella!"

dissero gli occhi del ragazzo

"che bello!

lei brilla come una stella!»

gli occhi del bambino non dicevano nulla

ma quieta e totale gioia

e mi ha calmato il cuore di tristezza

per come siamo...

ed è per questo che ti odio

e come ho capito

che nessuno conosce o ama mai un altro
