Once upon a time they sent a rocket to the moon

With scientific instruments to test conditions there

But just before they closed the door, one scientist expelled a germ

That accidentally found its way aboard and stowed away

For three years it remained undetected on the moon

It was the only living creature there:

Behold the mystery that is me»

Then one day the scientists recovered all their gear

Excited by the prospect of unearthly things inside

They found, to their astonishment, a living thing within

It seemed to bear good tidings from somewhere in outer space:

«You're not alone

Soon they figured out the heinous error they had made

And now the earthly germ had something else it seemed to say:

«We're all alone

We’re all alone

Behold the mystery

Behold the mystery.»

C'era una volta che mandavano un razzo sulla luna

Con strumenti scientifici per testare le condizioni lì

Ma poco prima che chiudessero la porta, uno scienziato ha espulso un germe

Che accidentalmente ha trovato la sua strada a bordo e si è nascosto

Per tre anni è rimasto inosservato sulla luna

Era l'unica creatura vivente lì:

Poi un giorno gli scienziati hanno recuperato tutta la loro attrezzatura

Eccitato dalla prospettiva di cose ultraterrene all'interno

Hanno trovato, con loro stupore, una cosa vivente dentro

Sembrava portare buone notizie da qualche parte nello spazio esterno:

"Non sei solo

Ecco il mistero che sono io»

Ben presto capirono l'atroce errore che avevano commesso

E ora il germe terreno aveva qualcos'altro che sembrava dire:

«Siamo tutti soli

Siamo tutti soli

Guarda il mistero

Ecco il mistero».
