If the dull substance of my flesh were thought

Injurious distance should not stop my way

For then despite of space, I would be brought

From limits far remote where thou dost stay

Not so far, mine eye and heart are at a mortal war

How to divide the conquest of your irresistible sight

When you are here with your poetry

But ah!

Thought kills me that I’m not thought

To leap large lengths of miles when you are gone

These are our sacrifices, roses have thorns and silver fountains mud

But that, so much of earth and water wrought

I must attend time’s leisure with my moan

Let me confess that we two… we must be twain!

Rise with your stateliness, dream of us with open eye

Like waves make towards the shore

Our minutes hasten to their end

Not so far, mine eye and heart are at a mortal war

So long live these lines, these give life to thee

La distanza dannosa non dovrebbe fermare la mia strada

Perché allora, nonostante lo spazio, sarei stato portato

Da limiti lontanissimi dove rimani

Non finora, il mio occhio e il mio cuore sono in una guerra mortale

Il pensiero mi uccide che non sono pensato

Per saltare grandi lunghezze di miglia quando te ne sei andato

Questi sono i nostri sacrifici, le rose hanno le spine e le fontane d'argento fango

Ma questo, così tanto di terra e acqua lavorati

Devo frequentare il tempo libero con il mio lamento

Lasciami confessare che noi due... dobbiamo essere due gemelli!

Alzati con la tua maestosità, sognaci ad occhi aperti

Come le onde fanno verso la riva

I nostri minuti corrono verso la fine

Non finora, il mio occhio e il mio cuore sono in una guerra mortale

In lontananza la mia mente si tuffa nella tua

Chi crederà al mio versetto nel tempo a venire

Se fosse pieno dei tuoi più alti deserti e del mio amore?

Finché gli occhi possono vedere

Quindi lunga vita a queste linee, queste ti danno vita
