Well the river and I sat down for a drink

I gave a wry smile, poured her tall

Said «well we’re islands, after all.»

I felt the fight ebb away

But the hollow weight, it stayed

She said, when you’re gone I won’t think of you

And I said, make my day

She poured, like water into woe

And I said, make my day

I’m paraphrasing anyway, alluding to a verse much worse

And if you think, that’s all I’ve got, I’d love to show you all I’m not

She, flooded the land without thought

We’re all made of broken boards

And knots and ties and lies

And the river erodes everything

She’ll leave you high and dry

I’ve spent my days over thinking, over drinking

Putting days down to delay the feeling

That we’re all astounded by the unastounding

Staring at screens, filling gaps, and lying.
