Red Light (Commentary) - EXITS

The fifth song on this EP is… definitely the most important song to me.

It’s a song called «Red Light.»

And, in my life… I've kind of realized that…

a lot of the things I think about, I think about when I’m driving

I think there’s this… there's this sort of feeling that comes with being in a

car, and moving without really doing much, and… and passing things and

listening to music.

And those are things that… you kinda can get in your own

head a little bit when you’re driving alone in a car.

And… so, what a red

light kinda represents in my life is… I think I’m not focused that much when

I’m driving.

I’m…well, I’m focused on the road, but I’m not really focused

too much on my own thoughts

But it’s something about stopping.

It’s…there's just something about…

going from motion to going to a halt.

And it’s typically at lights where I

realize that I start to kinda think.

And it’s usually just… it's just like

thirty seconds to two minutes, but I think I’ve had a lot of conversations in

my own head stopped at red lights.

And, and… those are conversations where I

kinda need to keep them to myself because that’s definitely… I think where I

think the most, and I… I get the most personal with myself, is when I’m just

alone, stopped somewhere in the middle of Virginia or New York

And a lot of those conversations have been good, and a lot of them have been

bad.

And… it kind of represents, to me, though, just knowing that I’m always

gonna wanna think when I’m stopped.

And… and whether it’s something good or if

it’s something bad, what a light kinda represents to me… it's kind of

acknowledging that there’s been conversations I’ve had where I’ve been a

different person, and I’ve grown since then

And it’s also kind of a reminder to me that in the future, I want to have those

conversations… again with myself.

I want to-I want to be able to think about

things, and I want to be… still be here five years from now, and be able to

think, and think back to this moment, and how I’ve changed since now.

So it’s definitely something that’s symbolic to me, and something that has

meaning to me.

And kind of, the message of this song is talking a lot about…

kind of, those feelings that I’ve had that I’ve moved on from and…

kind of were scared to talk about, really

I think a lot of people think things in their own head and don’t really know

how to get them out there.

And I’m definitely lucky that I have…

have music in my life.

But I’m also lucky that I kind of… created a symbol out

of something to-to really… have meaning elsewhere.

If music ever stopped,

I like to think that what I created here will still be a part of me.

And I’ll still have lots to look forward to, and I’ll still have other means

of… of kind of soul searching

And I definitely want to encourage people with this song to kind of…

find your own red light.

Find something that can be your reminder of who you

were and who you hope to be.

And really, just… it doesn’t need to be something

that you share with other people.

It’s really just something you create for

yourself.

And it’s definitely something that’s important to me, and something

I’m very happy I have

And… the song itself was a concept for a very long time because it’s been a

symbol that has been important to me for a very long time.

And…

the song just never felt write when I would try to write it.

And this is

probably the longest song — not longest in time — but this is the song I’ve

spent the longest writing… just because it was so important to me.

It was kind of… I was kind of at war with myself trying to figure out how to

get this message across and how to do it right.

And I definitely think I did

that with this version of the song.

And I kinda wanted to create something that

was just… just distant.

Just me with a piano, being able to say what I have to

say

La quinta canzone di questo EP è... sicuramente la canzone più importante per me.

È una canzone intitolata «Red Light».

E, nella mia vita... mi sono quasi reso conto che...

molte cose a cui penso, penso quando guido

Penso che ci sia questo... c'è questo tipo di sensazione che deriva dall'essere in un

auto, e muoversi senza fare molto, e... e passare cose e

ascoltare la musica.

E quelle sono cose che... in un certo senso puoi metterti da solo

un po' di testa quando guidi da solo in un'auto.

E... quindi, che rosso

la luce che rappresenta nella mia vita è... penso di non essere così concentrato quando

Sto guidando.

Sono... beh, sono concentrato sulla strada, ma non sono veramente concentrato

troppo sui miei pensieri

Ma si tratta di fermarsi.

È... c'è solo qualcosa in...

passando dal movimento all'arresto.

Ed è tipicamente al semaforo dove io

mi rendo conto che comincio a pensare.

E di solito è solo... è proprio come

da trenta secondi a due minuti, ma penso di aver avuto molte conversazioni

la mia testa si è fermata al semaforo rosso.

E, e... quelle sono conversazioni in cui io

un po' ho bisogno di tenerli per me perché è decisamente... penso dove sono

penso di più, e io... divento più personale con me stesso, è quando sono solo

da solo, fermato da qualche parte nel mezzo della Virginia o di New York

E molte di quelle conversazioni sono state buone, e molte lo sono state

cattivo.

E... in un certo senso rappresenta, per me, il solo sapere che lo sono sempre

vorrò pensare quando mi fermerò

E... e se è qualcosa di buono o se

è qualcosa di brutto, ciò che una luce rappresenta per me... è una specie di

riconoscendo che ci sono state conversazioni che ho avuto dove sono stato a

persona diversa, e da allora sono cresciuto

Ed è anche una specie di promemoria per me che in futuro, voglio avere quelle

conversazioni... di nuovo con me stesso.

Voglio, voglio essere in grado di pensare

cose, e io voglio essere... essere ancora qui tra cinque anni, ed essere in grado di farlo

pensa e ripensa a questo momento e a come sono cambiato da allora.

Quindi è sicuramente qualcosa che è simbolico per me e qualcosa che ha

significato per me.

E in un certo senso, il messaggio di questa canzone parla molto di...

tipo, quei sentimenti che ho avuto da cui sono passato e...

in un certo senso avevamo paura di parlare, davvero

Penso che molte persone pensino cose nella loro testa e non lo sappiano davvero

come farli uscire.

E sono decisamente fortunato ad avere...

avere musica nella mia vita.

Ma sono anche fortunato ad aver creato un simbolo

di qualcosa che davvero... ha un significato altrove.

Se la musica si è mai fermata,

Mi piace pensare che ciò che ho creato qui sarà ancora una parte di me.

E avrò ancora molto da aspettarmi e avrò ancora altri mezzi

di... di una specie di ricerca interiore

E decisamente voglio incoraggiare le persone con questa canzone a una specie di...

trova la tua luce rossa.

Trova qualcosa che possa ricordarti chi sei

eri e chi speri di essere.

E davvero, solo... non è necessario che sia qualcosa

che condividi con altre persone.

È davvero solo qualcosa per cui crei

te stesso.

Ed è sicuramente qualcosa di importante per me, e qualcosa

Sono molto felice di averlo fatto

E... la canzone stessa è stata un concept per molto tempo perché è stata un

simbolo che è stato importante per me per molto tempo.

E…

la canzone non si sentiva mai scritta quando provavo a scriverla.

E questo è

probabilmente la canzone più lunga, non la più lunga nel tempo, ma questa è la canzone che ho

ho passato più tempo a scrivere... solo perché era così importante per me.

È stato un po'... ero un po' in guerra con me stesso cercando di capire come

trasmettere questo messaggio e come farlo bene.

E sicuramente penso di averlo fatto

che con questa versione della canzone.

E in un certo senso volevo creare qualcosa che

era solo... solo distante.

Solo io con un piano, in grado di dire ciò che devo

dire
