Higher Education - Funky DL

For years I kept dreaming I was back at school

Maybe a sign that I return to education

And go back to do some more academics, so accordingly

I enrolled in twenty, eleven to go and do a law degree

And I was 33, some others they were much younger

Didn’t consider all the pressure it would put them under

Some of them only showed up for the student loan

Come in late, gossiping in class and wouldn’t do the homework

Then complain to me, the Teacher don’t like them, so

Wanna make a formal complaint, I’m like «aight then»

But I put my head down and did a lot of reading

In the morning, in the afternoon, then in the evening

Constitutional law’s political

And also studied contract law and criminal, yo'

I didn’t really hang with anyone at first

And kept myself to myself until I was immersed in a routine

Then I socialised with a couple youngers

And tried to stay away from groups with abundant numbers

And didn’t get involved in he say-she say

And yo I treated all my lecturers like DJ’s

When I didn’t understand, I asked them «take it from the top»

The amount of work we had to learn was far too much

But this is higher education not a game of checkers

And I’m a diamond, so I can handle any pressure

Verse Two

A competition for debating and when it concluded

My team was crowned the champions and we were undisputed

Somebody asked me who trained you?

«You too nice»

I told em' I’ve performed in front of crowds my whole life

But then I had a glitch in my second year of study

I fell short on a test, I wasn’t on the money

It was a difficult subject, it’s land

And most of what they told us, yo' I didn’t understand

But I make no excuses and gotta make improvements

I guess this kind of thing can happen when you just a student

So I got some more books and began to read further

Took my attitude of music and became the hardest worker

And my Father would have been proud to see me reach higher

In an academic field, but he passed a year prior

And that kinda got to me to really tell the truth

But didn’t stop my test scores going through the roof in year three

You catch me sitting at the front

Cos the back was reserved for the ones who smoke blunts

All the way through lunch and trying to hide it from the lecturer

And now they asking me for notes to be catching up

I graduated in twenty fourteen

And when I go to sleep I get no more dreams of going back to school

So I guess the job’s done

Bachelors Law degree, LLB 2:1 mutha…

Per anni ho continuato a sognare di essere tornato a scuola

Forse un segno che ritorno all'istruzione

E torna a fare altri studi, quindi di conseguenza

Mi sono iscritto a venti, undici per andare a laurearmi in giurisprudenza

E io avevo 33 anni, altri erano molto più giovani

Non ha considerato tutta la pressione a cui li avrebbe sottoposti

Alcuni di loro si sono presentati solo per il prestito studentesco

Entra in ritardo, spettegola in classe e non fa i compiti

Poi lamentati con me, al Maestro non piacciono, quindi

Voglio fare un reclamo formale, sono tipo «Va bene allora»

Ma ho abbassato la testa e ho letto molto

Al mattino, al pomeriggio, poi alla sera

Il diritto costituzionale è politico

E ho anche studiato diritto contrattuale e penale, yo'

All'inizio non uscivo con nessuno

E mi sono tenuto per me stesso finché non sono stato immerso in una routine

Poi ho socializzato con un paio di giovani

E ha cercato di stare lontano dai gruppi con numeri abbondanti

E non è stato coinvolto in lui dice-dice lei

E io ho trattato tutti i miei docenti come dei DJ

Quando non ho capito, ho chiesto loro di «prenderlo dall'alto»

La quantità di lavoro che dovevamo imparare era troppo

Ma questa è l'istruzione superiore, non un gioco a dama

E io sono un diamante, quindi posso sopportare qualsiasi pressione

Verso due

Un concorso per il dibattito e quando si è concluso

La mia squadra è stata incoronata campione ed eravamo indiscussi

Qualcuno mi ha chiesto chi ti ha formato?

«Troppo gentile»

Gli ho detto che mi sono esibito davanti al pubblico per tutta la vita

Ma poi ho avuto un problema tecnico nel mio secondo anno di studio

Sono stato a corto di un test, non ero sui soldi

Era un argomento difficile, è terra

E la maggior parte di ciò che ci hanno detto, tu non l'ho capito

Ma non chiedo scuse e devo apportare miglioramenti

Immagino che questo genere di cose possa accadere quando sei solo uno studente

Quindi ho ottenuto altri libri e ho iniziato a leggere ulteriormente

Ho preso il mio atteggiamento nei confronti della musica ed è diventato il lavoratore più duro

E mio padre sarebbe stato orgoglioso di vedermi arrivare più in alto

In un campo accademico, ma è passato un anno prima

E questo mi ha portato a dire davvero la verità

Ma non ha impedito ai miei punteggi dei test di andare alle stelle nel terzo anno

Mi sorprendi seduto di fronte

Perché la schiena era riservata a chi fuma blunt

Per tutto il pranzo e cercando di nasconderlo al docente

E ora mi chiedono di appunti per riprendermi

Mi sono diplomato a ventiquattordici anni

E quando vado a dormire non sogno più di tornare a scuola

Quindi immagino che il lavoro sia finito
