Es war schon Mitternacht

ich hatte mich verfahr’n

vor dem gasthaus hielt ich den Wagen an — ich hatte Licht geseh’n.

eine Frau in Weiß ließ mich wortlos ein

ich schien der einzige Gast dieser Nacht zu sein

lächelnd sagte sie: «Ich bin Laura Jane.»

Und nach dem Essen trank ich Wein mit ihr

Am nächsten Morgen war das Haus ganz leer

und ich fuhr weiter entlang dem Meer;

Und der Alte wurde bleich und sein Atem schwer

Era già mezzanotte

mi sono perso

Ho fermato la macchina davanti alla locanda, avevo visto una luce.

una donna in bianco mi fece entrare senza dire una parola
