1Lo, the central thought of God

Is that He be one with man;

He to man is everything

That He might fulfill His plan.

2Earthen vessel man was made-

Body, soul, and spirit too,

God as life that he may take

And with Him have oneness true.

3By the flow of life divine,

Man becomes a precious stone

Fit for building God’s abode,

That His glory might be known.

4'Tis the city God hath built,

'Tis the dwelling God requires,

'Tis the new Jerusalem

Which fulfills His heart’s desires.

5'Tis the building of the saints,

'Tis the blend of God and man,

Purposed by the Father’s will

Long before the world began.

6In its center, as its pow’r,

Is the throne of Christ and God,

Whence doth flow the stream of life

As the Spirit’s living flood.

7Christ, the tree of life, is there

In the flowing of the stream,

Yielding fruit of life divine

As the food of life supreme.

8God in Christ, the glorious light,

Thru the city brightly shines,

Scattering all the deathly night

With its light of life divine.

9God in man and man in God

Mutual dwelling thus possess;

God the content is to man,

And the man doth God express.

1Ecco, il pensiero centrale di Dio

È che Egli sia uno con l'uomo;

Lui per l'uomo è tutto

Affinché possa realizzare il suo piano.

2L'uomo è stato fatto di un vaso di terra,

Corpo, anima e anche spirito,

Dio come vita che può prendere

E con Lui abbiate unità vera.

3Per il fluire della vita divina,

L'uomo diventa una pietra preziosa

adatto per costruire la dimora di Dio,

Che la Sua gloria potesse essere conosciuta.

4 È la città che Dio ha costruito,

È la dimora che Dio richiede,

È la nuova Gerusalemme

che soddisfa i desideri del suo cuore.

5'Tis l'edificio dei santi,

È la miscela di Dio e dell'uomo,

Destinato dalla volontà del Padre

Molto prima dell'inizio del mondo.

6 Nel suo centro, come suo potere,

È il trono di Cristo e Dio,

Da dove scorre il flusso della vita

Come l'inondazione vivente dello Spirito.

7Cristo, l'albero della vita, è là

Nello scorrere del ruscello,

Cedere il frutto della vita divina

Come il cibo della vita supremo.

8Dio in Cristo, luce gloriosa,

Attraverso la città risplende luminosa,

Spargendo tutta la notte mortale

Con la sua luce di vita divina.

9Dio nell'uomo e l'uomo in Dio

La dimora reciproca possiede così;

Dio il contenuto è per l'uomo,

E l'uomo Dio lo esprime.
