I was in a hotel room

I was so far away from home

It seemed like the walls were closing in on me

My soul felt like it’d turned to stone

There were two books upon the night stand

I didn’t know which one to read

And I wasn’t sure what I might find in them

Or if it would be anything I need

But I sat there in that small room

And as the night became the day

I read about Buddha and I read about Christ

And the words that they did say

And I saw myself before me

Like a ship lost at sea

And I guess I was content to just let it pass

When I heard your voice in me

Down on my knees

I went walking into a strange city

In the darkest hours of the night

I went looking for a sign from you

I was hoping to see the light

When a man came from the shadows

And he asked me if I’d heard

The good news about Jesus Christ

And how he was the word

Then he asked me to say a prayer with him

So that Christ I would receive

I told him I had further to walk

Before I could believe

He said he saw me standing before him

Like a ship lost at sea

And I saw myself reflected in his eyes

When I felt your breath on me

Down on my knees

I was sitting by the ocean

I was up against a dune

I was listening to the tide come in

I was looking up at the moon

And I never felt as alone in my life

As I did just sitting there

My whole life flashed before me

And the pictures they seemed so bare

And I was overcome with desperation

And a hunger I couldn’t feed

Time stood still and was seething

And I could feel my existence bleed

And I saw myself before me

Like a ship lost at sea

And I was looking for a beacon

When I felt your light touch me

Down on my knees

Sembrava che i muri si stessero chiudendo su di me

La mia anima sembrava trasformata in pietra

C'erano due libri sul comodino

Non sapevo quale leggere

E non ero sicuro di cosa avrei potuto trovare in loro

Ma mi sono seduto lì in quella stanzetta

E come la notte è diventata il giorno

Ho letto di Buddha e ho letto di Cristo

E le parole che hanno detto

E mi sono visto prima di me

Come una nave persa in mare

E suppongo di essere stato contento di lasciarlo passare

Quando ho sentito la tua voce dentro di me

In ginocchio

Sono andato a piedi in una città strana

Nelle ore più buie della notte

Sono andato a cercare un tuo segno

Speravo di vedere la luce

Quando un uomo è venuto dall'ombra

E mi ha chiesto se avessi sentito

La buona notizia su Gesù Cristo

E come era la parola

Poi mi ha chiesto di recitare una preghiera con lui

Affinché Cristo lo riceva

Gli ho detto che dovevo ancora camminare

Prima che potessi credere

Ha detto che mi ha visto in piedi davanti a lui

Come una nave persa in mare

E mi sono visto riflesso nei suoi occhi

Quando ho sentito il tuo respiro su di me

In ginocchio

Ero seduto vicino all'oceano

Ero in piedi contro una duna

Stavo ascoltando la marea entrare

Stavo guardando la luna

E non mi sono mai sentito così solo in vita mia

Come ho fatto appena seduto lì

Tutta la mia vita mi è balenata davanti

E le foto sembravano così spoglie

E sono stato sopraffatto dalla disperazione

E una fame che non potevo sfamare

Il tempo si era fermato e ribolliva

E potevo sentire la mia esistenza sanguinare

E mi sono visto prima di me

E stavo cercando un faro
