Mind numbing, mentally crushing, membrane sloshing noise.

Manhattan rumbled through night and I never knew that.

Had suspected, had read it on t-shirts: 'The city that never sleeps.'

But didn’t need to believe it.

The onliest sound I believed was the train pulling out, heard from 'bout 6

blocks away.

That was an all night sound.

Smooth, not chatter.

The noise was too noisy.

I mean noisier than noise had to be.

Noisier than the splash sound of the shore upon the roar of a 757 taking the

summer route.

Upon mom vex cause little kids don’t listen.

Noise bigger than blockbuster videos playing in the next room at the 4am

matinee and the was just noise.

I mean noisier than noise should be.

Not ear deafening, mind numbing, mentally crushing, membrane sloshing noise.

Keithie and his boys walked and talked shit nights but it was always distinct,

not chatter…

'n'jersey girls didn’t giggle at the freaks, 'talianos sucking Corona bottles

making crashes fill the street,

Never plugged the void of my nights because the void was silence.

Over in Bushwick, the ice cream man pulled his truck over while, shall we say,

he got his popsickle sucked.

He pulled over his truck but the song kept on, all day, all night.

The song means the ice cream guy’s gettin’some — it don’t even mean ice cream.

'Cause they hear the song and there’s no guy selling ice cream from the truck.

'Sides, who got money to be giving kids every time they hear the song woven

between the sounds of car horns and latin rhythms.

Mente intorpidimento, mentalmente schiacciante, rumore che sbatte le membrane.

Manhattan rimbombava per tutta la notte e non l'ho mai saputo.

Aveva sospettato, l'aveva letto sulle t-shirt: "La città che non dorme mai".

Ma non c'era bisogno di crederci.

L'unico suono in cui credevo fosse il treno in partenza, sentito dall'episodio 6

blocchi di distanza.

Era un suono per tutta la notte.

Liscio, non chiacchiere.

Il rumore era troppo rumoroso.

Voglio dire, più rumoroso di quanto doveva essere il rumore.

Più rumoroso del suono degli schizzi della spiaggia sul ruggito di un 757 che prende il

percorso estivo.

Su mamma irrita perché i bambini piccoli non ascoltano.

Rumore più grande dei video di successo in riproduzione nella stanza accanto alle 4 del mattino

matinée ed era solo rumore.

Intendo dire più rumoroso di quanto dovrebbe essere il rumore.

Non assordante per le orecchie, intorpidimento della mente, schiacciante mentalmente, rumore di vibrazione della membrana.

Keithie e i suoi ragazzi camminavano e parlavano notti di merda ma era sempre distinto,

non chiacchiere...

Le ragazze di 'n'jersey non ridacchiavano per i mostri, 'taliani che succhiavano le bottiglie di Corona

facendo schianti riempire la strada,

Mai tappato il vuoto delle mie notti perché il vuoto era silenzio.

A Bushwick, l'uomo dei gelati ha fermato il suo camion mentre, diciamo,

si è fatto succhiare il ghiacciolo.

Ha fermato il suo camion ma la canzone è andata avanti, tutto il giorno, tutta la notte.

La canzone significa che il ragazzo dei gelati sta diventando un po '- non significa nemmeno gelato.

Perché sentono la canzone e non c'è nessun tipo che vende gelati dal camion.

'Sides, che hanno i soldi da dare ai bambini ogni volta che sentono la canzone intessuta

tra i suoni dei clacson e i ritmi latini.
