Dribbler Bill - Slim Dusty

I see him still ole Dribbler Bill, his frame as hard as gidgee

He drove the mail on Bridal Tracks in country soft & rigid

Never had too much to say but when he did was just a drawl

And ya' kinda got the feelin', he’d be handy in a brawl

His Leyland truck was like ole Bill, gusty, rough and slow

He took that truck through country where a dozer wouldn’t go

Yeah, but he’s been bogged down tyre deep, back in Coober Hole

When others turned their trucks around and headed back for home

Now old Bill would do those little things for bush folk far from town

Had a memory like Sir Sydney, never wrote the items down

Newspapers he would put inside, mailbox on the ridge

And every stop along the way, had somethin' for the kids

He was seen to be a lonely man like one deprived of luck

An outward sign did only make was that old Leyland truck

He’d caress that smooth ole steerin' wheel, ease along the track

The last words that I heard him say was, «See ya later Jack.»

Now the mail still serves the far outback, the jobs they handle fine

But mem’ries dwell on Dribbler Bill way back in '39

I remember every mail night, the excitement and the thrill

As we sat outside and waited for the likes of Dribbler Bill

E tu hai la sensazione che sarebbe a portata di mano in una rissa

Il suo camion Leyland era come il vecchio Bill, burrascoso, ruvido e lento

Ha portato quel camion attraverso il paese dove un apripista non sarebbe andato

Sì, ma è rimasto impantanato in profondità, a Coober Hole

Quando gli altri hanno girato i loro camion e sono tornati a casa

Ora il vecchio Bill farebbe quelle piccole cose per la gente del bush lontano dalla città

Aveva una memoria come Sir Sydney, non trascriveva mai gli elementi

Giornali che avrebbe messo dentro, cassetta delle lettere sul crinale

E ogni fermata lungo la strada aveva qualcosa per i bambini

È stato visto come un uomo solitario come uno privato della fortuna

Un segno esteriore che ha fatto solo era quel vecchio camion Leyland

Avrebbe accarezzato quel vecchio volante liscio, si sarebbe rilassato lungo la pista

Le ultime parole che gli ho sentito dire sono state: «Ci vediamo più tardi Jack».

Ma i ricordi si soffermano su Dribbling Bill nel lontano '39

Ricordo ogni notte di posta, l'eccitazione e il brivido

Mentre ci sedevamo fuori e aspettavamo artisti del calibro di Dribblar Bill

Oh, ci sono molte volte in cui ci ha aiutato quando il tucker ha avuto un vero e proprio gioco

Come la carne fresca dei buoi al sicuro da qualche parte su per la pista

Sì, il grande vecchio era Dribbling Bill il tipo che si sarebbe sempre attaccato

E rischierebbe la vita senza pensare ai bisognosi e ai malati.
