The Indifferent Hedgehog - Stackridge

There’s a Hedgehog on my fence

He treats me with indifference

And I in turn ignore him

Even though he’s close to me

I was told when I was small

That China wasn’t far at all

But now I can’t remember

Why I’ve never been to see

Long ago when I was smaller

I remember growing taller

If I could be kind and good

The world would smile on me

Tell me what you want to know

Ask me and I’ll try to show you

Everywhere there is to go

And everything to see

There’s a Sparrow on my roof

Who manages to stay aloof

And go about his daily business

Much the same as me

C'è un riccio sul mio recinto

Mi tratta con indifferenza

E io a mia volta lo ignoro

Anche se mi è vicino

Mi è stato detto quando ero piccolo

Che la Cina non era affatto lontana

Ma ora non riesco a ricordare

Perché non sono mai stato a vedere

Molto tempo fa, quando ero più piccolo

Ricordo di essere diventato più alto

Se potessi essere gentile e buono

Il mondo mi sorriderebbe

Dimmi cosa vuoi sapere

Chiedimelo e cercherò di mostrartelo

Ovunque c'è da andare

E tutto da vedere

C'è un passero sul mio tetto

Chi riesce a mantenersi in disparte

E occuparsi delle sue attività quotidiane

Più o meno come me
