One wish alone have I

In some calm land beside the sea to die

Upon it’s strand

That I forever sleep

The forest near, a heaven near

Stretched over the peaceful deep

That no one weeps my end

Nor for me grieves

But let the autumn lend

Tongues to the leaves

No candles shine

Nor tomb I need, instead

Let them for me a bed

Or twigs entwine

When brooklet ripples fall

With murmuring sound

And moon is found

Among the pine trees tall

While softly rings

The wind it’s trembling chime

And over me the lime

In blossem flings

As I will then no more a wanderer be

Let them with fondness store my memory

And Lucifer the while

Above the pine, good comrade mine

Will on me gently smile?

In mournful mood

The sea sing sad refrain…

And I be earth again

In solitude

Un solo desiderio ho io

In una terra tranquilla vicino al mare per morire

Sulla sua ciocca

Che dormo per sempre

La foresta vicino, un paradiso vicino

Disteso sul pacifico profondo

Che nessuno pianga la mia fine

Né per me si addolora

Ma lascia che l'autunno presti

Lingue alle foglie

Nessuna candela brilla

Né la tomba di cui ho bisogno, invece

Lasciali per me un letto

Oppure i ramoscelli si intrecciano

Quando cadono le increspature del ruscello

Con un mormorio

E si trova la luna

Tra i pini alti

Mentre suona dolcemente

Il vento sta tremando rintocchi

E su di me il lime

Nelle avventure di fiori

Poiché allora non sarò più un vagabondo

Lascia che con affetto memorizzino la mia memoria

E Lucifero nel frattempo

Sopra il pino, buon compagno mio

Mi sorriderà dolcemente?

Di umore triste

Il mare canta triste ritornello...

E sarò di nuovo terra
